Moving Tips
Moving can be very difficult for some people, but it doesn't have to be. Here are a few moving tips to help make your move go smoothly.
Moving Tip #1
The first thing to remember is to start preparing for your move long before your planned move date (reading this moving tips guide is a good start!). You can never start too early, but you can certainly start too late! If you don't know where to start or are worried you will forget something, use a moving checklist.
Moving Tip #2
The second thing to remember is to stay organized. If necessary, do things one at a time and don't stop until that thing is finished. Make many lists, and write everything down.
Moving Tip #3
Make sure you get plenty of moving supplies. You will probably need more boxes than you think you do. Having extra is ok, but running out could slow down your preparation. You can always return the extra supplies later.
Moving Tip #4
If you have suitcases, use them. Pack things you will need immediately (medications, pet supplies, etc) separately and load them onto the truck last so they will be unloaded first. As you pack, you may want to label and put aside any keys to give to the new homeowner or return to your landlord.
Moving Tip #5
Group boxes in some way so that boxes that go to the same room are easily identified. For example, you could use a color coding system by getting colored stickers and putting the same color on boxes that go to the same room.
Moving Tip #6
Make sure you notify everyone who needs to know you are moving. This includes family, friends, credit card companies, banks, newspaper companies, health clubs, and anyone else you can think of. To make things easier, make a checklist of everyone you need to contact.
Moving Tip #7
If you have furniture or appliances that needs to be taken apart for the move, make sure you have the right tools for the job, or call a professional.
Moving Tip #8
If you are using a professional moving company, move valuable and irreplaceable items yourself. Make sure to read all contracts carefully before signing them.
Moving Tip #9
Take things slow and don't overwhelm yourself. That's another reason to start preparing well before your move - so that if you need to take a break, you will have time to do so.
Whether you are moving across the world or just to the other side of your block, the same moving tips can help your move be an easy one.
